There are 4 million blood samples collected every single day to evaluate the health status of patients from acute conditions all the way to chronic disease monitoring, such as diabetes cholesterol, or even cardiac function, using mainly the plasma component of blood.

 

However, the conventional way of blood collection hasn’t been the most pleasant experience for everyone involved. The patients go to the clinic or hospital and wait for a highly trained staff to draw blood from one patient at a time. The sample then uses a cold chain facility for storage and transport to a diagnostic laboratory for the back-end process and analysis. The plasma component could be contaminated easily by cell components due to a long lead time.
